When we open our heart to Jesus, and He comes in and He is sealed there, from the background we come from, we may feel now that we might have to go do something for Him. When I was a non-Christian, I was walking around finding ways to try to gain my way into heaven. And that is still a residual of our feeling that we “have” to do something to earn His salvation, His good will, to get into His “good books.” But it is free! When Jesus first appears in our life, we naturally want to believe that our greatest responsibility will be to serve him by our own human efforts! That is why so many of us live in condemnation and fear when we do not feel that we have accomplished that.
A while back I met a friend who was a new Christian, who was struggling in his heart because he was not “doing enough” to serve God, which he thought was fulfilling his Christian responsibilities. He did not know what he had to do to serve God!
When I met with this new Christian he felt guilty and depressed; he did not feel he was fulfilling his greatest responsibility that he believed God had saved him for! This is a guy that felt fearful that he was not fulfilling his obligation as a Christian. But it brought him some peace when we read this scripture:
Acts 17:24,25 “The God who made the world and everything in it – He is Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in shrines made by hands. Neither is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives everyone life and breath and all things.”
This fellow was relieved when he read this. It brought freedom to him! Because in John 17:3, it says WHY we were created:
(Jesus talking to the Father) “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
We want to serve God from our Loving Overflow which we have through our relationship with Him!! Because we have a loving relationship with him, we WANT to serve Him! And that comes from our new life in Him. It does not mean we don’t “do” anything for Him, but all we do now will come out of a love that we have for what HE has done for us!
I will pray that as you read these scriptures and words over, that the Holy Spirit would make them LIFE to you! And that you will have freedom in your walk with Him, understanding and knowing that the Great Gift of God is simply knowing Him, and out of that loving overflow we will desire to serve Him. God bless you all, He loves you so much,
When we were small we learned to swear from elders. In my case, a lot of the time it was “bloody” this, and “bloody” that when we hurt ourselves. Years ago when I was in another country visiting, there was a friend there who had come to Canada with his wife and he just loved Canada; he was crazy about it!! In his conversations about Canada, every second word was “bloody” this and “bloody” that. It was the “bloody” mountains or the “bloody” scenery, or whatever; it was his way of emphasizing how great things were! He loved it! He wanted to retire at some stage and possibly move to Canada. But sad to say, he passed away before all that. But when I was thinking about my friend and that story, it reminded me again about that word – and to look and see exactly again what all the meaning was – in the Bible where it explains about “the blood of Jesus” what it means, and what it does. It is in Hebrews 9:12. The power of the Blood. No blood, no life.
It is quite simple. In the Bible, there are two testaments: The Old one and the New one. In order to get rid of sins in the Old Testament, they had to sacrifice an animal, to shed its blood, for the removal of their sins. That went on month after month, year after year, a whole lifetime. But in the New Testament, the picture is that God sent his Son Jesus to die on the cross for us, to remove all our sins and guilts, once and for all. When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming to be baptized by him in the Jordan River, he said, “Here is the Lamb of God that will take away the sins of the world!” So, at the cross where Jesus died, with the shedding of His blood, it put an end to all our sins – past, present, and future! All we have to do is believe Him! We just ask God to give us the faith to believe it.
Jesus did not just “cover” the sins like they did in the Old Testament with sacrificed animals, but it says He took them away forever – and He does not remember them ANYMORE!! That is a good deal, isn’t it! That is the Gospel! When we believe that by faith, we are guaranteed that we are children of God, we are guaranteed eternal life, and are totally forgiven FORever!!! Jesus the Redeemer, redeemed us by shedding His own blood on the cross! He said “It is Finished”!! What He did for us removes guilts, fears, and ongoing condemnation. God the Father sent His son to take away the sins of the world. For anyone who believes and receives that, now enters into His Gift of Eternal Life, “paid for” in full!
That is the Gospel, the Grace and Mercy of God!!
Jesus always stands at the door of our hearts and knocks to come in. Enjoy His presence!! We believe as you receive this word, that New Life is yours!!
