A Free Gift

When we were young, one of my favorite people was my Grandpa Luc. He was my mother’s father. I loved that guy and admired him even as a little kid. He was kind, generous, well-respected and loved by all. The story goes that Grandpa Luc, who lived with his parents and family in the Saguenay region in Quebec, decided to be a pioneer to Western Manitoba. He was just 17 (in the 1870’s). So he took his axe, and set on his way. But the last parting words Grandpa Luc’s Dad had to him were these (they were in French of course as they were all French-Canadian, but I will translate them):

Sans le salute, pensez si bien, tout ce que fera severa de rien.”

In English that meant:
Without salvation, really think about it, all your good works mean nothing.
This is exactly what Grandpa Luc was saying… “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the free GIFT of God!!”(Ephesians 2:8)
Now, of course, these words must have made a real impact on our Grandpa Luc! They were some of the last parting words from his own father before he went on the big pioneering trip to a new land in Western Manitoba! They really must have stuck in his mind, because my mother heard that quote all the time, and she used to share it with us! I heard it as a kid – but I never really knew what it meant! To this day, I may have a bit of understanding about what he meant by the importance of salvation – that without salvation, all our human efforts will not bring us back to God. What my Grandpa was saying, is exactly what the Bible says – By grace you are saved, not by our works, but it is a Free Gift!
Today, as I am older I still hear that saying in my mind all the time “Sans le salute, pensez si bien, tout ce que fera severa de rien.” Funny how what was shared to you as a kid you don’t forget easily! Now, today, John 3:16, that very popular verse in the Bible (even made famous by Tim Tebow the football player who wrote the scripture under his eyes!) explains to me clearly what was behind that famous quote of my Grandpa Luc’s… let me show you.
John 3:16For God so loved the world That He gave His only begotten Son That whosoever believes in Him Should not perish, but have Everlasting Life.”
Let me share a little about the meaning behind these words from John 3:16 – This is the FREE GIFT from God!!! All we do is receive the gift!!!
For God so loved the world…” He includes EVERYONE, all races, genders, colors, nations, everyone!!! God loves His creation so much – He created it! And humanly speaking, it is impossible for us to love others fully unless we have ourselves experienced the love of a Loving Father God through His FREE GIFT to us. So we just thank Him for the gift. That is it!
That He gave His only begotten Son…” Because of Adam and Eve who were deceived a way long time ago, we have inherited their DNA of their original sin, separating us from a relationship with the Father. So God gave His only Son Jesus who died on the cross for us so His sacrifice restores our relationship with the Father!!
That whosoever believes in Him…” Belief comes from faith. The Bible says “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). Faith is not logical! It is the opposite of our five senses of sight, touch, hearing, smell, and taste. Our faith comes from hearing the Word of God which gives us the grace and ability to believe and receive that gift.
Should not perish, but have Everlasting Life.” This is our great reward!
Today, God loves you so much! As He knocks at the door of your heart, let Him in! It is the Free Gift of God!
We love you, He loves you, He really really loves you! God bless you all!

Living Water

We as human beings are seeking for love in our relationships.

I want to share about two women who have similar stories:

The first one I was watching on television a while back, where she was talking with a known marriage counsellor. The subject for that day was about this lady who was struggling with her marriage with her fifth husband. She felt she was not successful in life in finding “true love.” So, she was reading books on the subject, attended seminars, and everything. She just could not just get the love and fulfillment she was seeking from her relationships. The counsellor was giving her his usual response on how to fix her marriage – which was steps to do that, steps to do this, more steps here and more steps there. That was his answer to her. (By the way, some of these counselling programs are useful – I am not against them!

But let me tell you about the second woman’s story I want to share – She was presented by Jesus with the answer to her relationship problems and lack of fulfillment. She was The Woman at the Well, in John 4. It is a 2,000 year old story!) And it goes like this:
Jesus was walking through Samaria, He stopped by Jacob’s well for a drink of water. While he was sitting there, this woman came by to get some water from the well. And He asked her for a drink.
“Jesus said to the woman at the well, ‘Everyone who drinks your water from the well will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks the water I give them will never be thirsty again. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’”
“The woman said to him, Sir give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

He told her, Go call your husband and come back.

I have no husband she said.

Jesus said to her, you are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had 5 husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have said is quite true.
The woman said to Jesus – Sir, I can see that you are a prophet…I know that Messiah is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us. Then Jesus declared, I the one speaking to you, I am he.”
So then the woman left her water jar and ran back to her town to tell everyone about Him. They came to see him and Jesus spent two days there. He was explaining that He was the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God who takes away the sins of the world! Jesus spent two days sharing the Love of God! He shared things like “the Father and I are one, I do what my Father says to do, and When you see me, you have seen the Father!” He said if you believe on me, you have eternal life, because he said, I am the way, the truth and the life!

One of the most difficult things in trying to love others is the self-effort that it takes. And the answer to that is what Jesus said… we cannot love anyone unless we first experience how much God loves us. I John 4:19 “We love each other because He loved us first.”
John 10:10 Jesus said: “…I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly!”
The reason Jesus came is not only to give us eternal life, but to have it here more abundantly on earth! Because He said, I am the way, the truth, and the life, which means Life Here, and Life Eternal! He is our Living Water!
So today, whether we are struggling in our relationships, single, married, or otherwise, or feeling unfulfilled and unloved, let us remember this, in our search for love and fulfillment, He is the source of this love we seek – God is love!

Today, as He gently knocks at the door of our heart, let Him in! Enjoy Him, our Loving Living Water! God loves you very, very much,

Truth is a Person

I lived in hopelessness for many years until I met the Truth.
Knowing that Person will set you free from many things – fear, guilt, hopelessness, addictions, bondage.
Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.John 14:6
Jesus says, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth sets you free.” John 8:32.
Many times in our conversation through our lives we use this saying loosely – “the truth shall set you free” – not recognizing that the Truth is a Person – And it clearly says, KNOWING that Person, He sets you free! The emphasis is on knowing. Then Jesus says, I am the way, the TRUTH and the life. So He is the Truth. The Truth is a Person!
The meaning of the word “knowing or knew” in the scriptures is often used to describe the intimate relationship between the husband and wife. So in that scripture, “Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free,” it is talking about our intimate relationship with Jesus Christ who is the Person that sets us free. Because Jesus Is the Truth!
Today, He is standing at the door of your heart, gently knocking. Invite Him in! Enjoy the Truth! God loves you very, very much, and so do we!!
